POWERQUARK Unveils PQ8745Q, a 140W Automotive-Grade Buck-Boost Converter

2025-06-20

POWERQUARK has announced the launch of its new automotive-grade buck-boost converter PQ8745Q, which supports an input voltage range of 3.7V to 36V and provides an output voltage range of 1V to 29V, with a peak power of up to 140W. PQ8745Q has passed the AEC-Q100 automotive qualification certification and is now in mass production, offering efficient and stable power conversion for automotive systems. It can be widely used in various applications such as in-car wired charging, wireless charging, automotive lighting control, and ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems).

Compact and Efficient, with Upgraded Output

PQ8745Q integrates two low-side power switches found in traditional buck-boost solutions and adopts a 3mm × 5mm wettable flank QFN package. This helps customers simplify their circuit designs and save PCB space. The chip utilizes POWERQUARK's advanced power management technology and precise voltage regulation functions, ensuring efficient and stable output voltage even in the face of transient voltage changes. The quiescent current of the chip is as low as 350μA, resulting in lower system temperature rise.
PQ8745Q can achieve 29V maximum output voltage and 140W peak power. This allows it to accommodate a wider range of voltages and power levels, expanding its application scenarios. PQ8745Q uses high-side current sensing, which helps maintain signal integrity and enhances the stability and safety of the system. Additionally, PQ8745Q further improves system EMI performance through techniques such as spread-spectrum jittering, enabling it to pass the stringent CISPR 25 Class 5 certification without the need for common-mode chokes.

Flexible Configuration for Easy Application

Buck-boost converters are used to convert battery voltage into levels suitable for automotive systems and are applied in various systems such as in-car chargers, automotive lighting, and auxiliary electrical systems. To simplify system design, PQ8745Q is controlled via an I2C interface, allowing for programmable customization of power parameters for different applications. It supports a reference voltage with a step size of 1mV and a range of 0.1V to 1.123V, an output current with a step size of 50mA and a maximum of 6.35A, and selectable switching frequencies of 280kHz, 420kHz, and 560kHz.
In addition to basic parameter settings, PQ8745Q also supports switching and activation of different functions, enabling engineers to achieve more flexible and convenient configurations. Customers can configure the automatic pulse frequency modulation mode for light-load applications to improve system efficiency, or use the forced pulse width modulation mode in scenarios requiring a fixed switching frequency and low noise. Voltage drop compensation and current limit values can also be easily set.
