Flagship products penetrating multiple dimensions of the booming energy storage market
In addition to applications in outdoor power sources and high-power consumer electronics, the demand for energy storage batteries in the industrial field is also growing. Communication base stations, as the core infrastructure of mobile communication networks, require energy storage batteries as backup power sources. It is estimated that by 2030, the cumulative market demand for energy storage batteries in China's communication base stations will reach 142.7 GWh, with lithium-ion batteries accounting for more than 80% of the market share. On the power distribution side, supercapacitor energy storage is widely used as a backup power source for power equipment. In the event of a power outage on the grid side, supercapacitor modules can back up data for equipment or provide short-term energy for opening and closing operations, enhancing the stability and reliability of the power grid. Energy storage batteries also have a broad market prospect in intelligent infrastructure such as data centers and smart hospitals.
For the above-mentioned industrial wide-range input applications, POWERQUARK's 80V buck-boost converter PQ8708 can achieve a conversion efficiency of over 98%, compatible with different input scenarios ranging from 9V to 48V. This makes the use of industrial equipment more convenient and reliable.
Product Features
PQ8708 features a wide input range of 4.5V to 80V and an output voltage range of 5V to 80V. It provides detection functions for input and output currents. Users can flexibly set parameters such as the upper limit of output current, output voltage, and switching frequency through the I2C interface or external resistors. It supports frequency jitter to reduce system EMI and integrates a SYNC synchronization function, which can be synchronized with an external clock. This makes it suitable for applications in image processing, medical devices, and other fields.
For PD3.1 wide-range output applications, PQ8708 can be used for Type-C external power supply in high-end hubs and dockings. It supports the Type-C PD3.1 EPR power range and provides a maximum power delivery capability of up to 240W.
PQ8708 is packaged in a 5mm × 6mm QFN-36 package and integrates comprehensive protection mechanisms, including input overvoltage, battery overvoltage, input overcurrent, peak current protection, and over-temperature protection.
Application Examples
As shown in the figure below, for backup power supply of power DTU (Data Transfer Unit), the discharge range of the traditional solution module is only 61V to 40V. Considering the power supply requirements of the downstream load, a supercapacitor module with 24 series of single capacitors of 500F is required. This does not fully utilize capacitor energy, resulting in system waste. POWERQUARK's PQ8708, however, can convert the discharge depth to below 20V. At this point, the system can use a 350F capacitor with 24 series, significantly reducing the overall BOM cost.
Conclusion
PQ8708 supports input and output voltages as high as 80V and is customized for industrial backup power and wide input/wide output industrial applications. Combined with charging chips such as PQ8808, it can help developers efficiently implement high-performance energy storage products and promote the transition to clean energy in a variety of application scenarios.
